A Message from the Superintendent -- December 11, 2020

A Message from the Superintendent

Dear Butler Area School District Community:

We will remain in remote learning for the week of December 14-18.  Our winter break officially begins after school on Friday, December 18.

It is my desire and hope that the COVID-19 active cases, staffing issues or any future orders from the Governor will not impede us from returning to live instruction on Monday, January 4, 2021.  Our tentative plan for when we are able to reopen will be:

  • Elementary - Enhanced Green -- Live in-person instruction for all students.

  • Secondary - Hybrid - COHORT -- Live in-person instruction for ½ students in cohorts

  • Center Avenue Community School -- Live in-person instruction for all students

  • Special Education Specialized Classrooms -- Continue live in-person instruction for all students.

I will continue to communicate with our local medical leaders and Butler County leadership. I will also review directives from the state. If needed, I will provide updates over the winter break.

Should you wish to change your child’s learning pathway to coincide with our return to school, please make that request online by Tuesday, December 15, 2020.

I am sure that the Governor’s Limited-Time Mitigation Order that was issued yesterday will cause additional hardships for many families in our community. Please remember as you navigate this difficult time that families are able to register any BASD student or child (18 and younger), who resides in the Butler Area School District, for free breakfast and lunch while students are learning remotely for any reason.

Some families participate out of financial need, others do this out of convenience.  Please know that we get reimbursed for the food from the federal government.  You are not taking away resources from any other operations or programming in the school district.  If you have any hint of a need or are just tired of making breakfast and lunch everyday, I encourage you to sign up for meals.

If you received meals last week, you are signed up for the rest of December through our winter break. IF you have not signed up yet, please do so by Sunday, December 13 at 5 pm.
