Welcome to my class. My goal each year is to provide every student with the opportunity to learn not only the required skills necessary to become proficient readers and writers of the English language, but to also provide each student with the opportunity to develop the interpersonal skills needed to form working relationships with both peers and adults. In order to do this each student must come to class with a positive attitude and a willingness to both work hard and take risks. My classroom is a place where I strive to develop a genuine respect for the individual as each student is unique and deserves to be treated with kindness and respect.
I earned my Bachelors of English in Secondary Education from Clarion University in 1990 and my Masters in Learning and Instruction from the University of Buffalo in 1998. I began my teaching career in the Baltimore County Public School District where I taught sixth grade Language Arts and then continued teaching seventh and eighth grade Language Arts in the Kenmore School District in New York. After moving to Pennsylvania, I had the opportunity to stay home with my children for several years. This fall will be my 12th year at Butler.
I am a very proud mother of three wonderful children. My oldest daughter attended both Gannon University and The George Washington University, and now lives and works in Washington, DC. My oldest son graduated in May from Slippery Rock, and my youngest son is a freshman at Kent State. I truly hope that my experience in working with adolescents throughout the years as a teacher, and my experiences in parenting will both prove to be valuable as I begin an eventful learning and growing experience with your child.
