Thank you for taking the time to explore this web site. I hope you find the information you're looking for. If you are a student or family member of a student in my class this year, please remember that I am serving students in all Learning Pathways: Traditional (students attending school in person every day), FLEX (students attending school two days and learning remotely three days a week), and CYBER (students working independently in an Edgenuity course online). Depending on the Pathway each student has chosen, you will find the BASD Parent Portal (Tyler SIS), Google Classroom, and Edgenuity to be points of contact for information regarding classes, assignments, and grades.
I am excited about starting my 25th year teaching in Butler Area School District. This year, I teach students in 8th grade Honors World Geography, and 9th grade Honors and Gifted World History. This is my sixth year at the Intermediate High School, after spending 19 years on the third floor of the former Junior High School.
My experience outside of the classroom helps me to make real-world connections with the social studies concepts I teach to my students. I have lived in these places in the U.S.: Illinois, Delaware, South Carolina, Maryland, Puerto Rico, Florida, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. I also lived abroad in Accra, Ghana in West Africa. I have traveled to 30 other U.S. states, and to these other countries: Canada, Mexico, British Virgin Islands, Jamaica, England, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and South Korea.
I love my job, my colleagues, and especially my students. I also love my family. My husband, John, and I have been married for 26 years, and have lived right here in the city of Butler since 1996. Our two sons attend the University of Pittsburgh's Swanson School of Engineering. They both attended school in Butler Area School District.
My experience as a mom within this district helps me to identify with the experiences of both my students and their parents. I hope this makes parents feel comfortable contacting me and confident that together we will make this a great year for each child.
