School Calendar Adjustments Sep 13, 2019

We have made adjustments to our school calendar as a result of our delayed start.

Monday, November 11th has been designated as an Act 80/School Conference day. Students do not need to report to school on this day. Teachers will be able to use that time for parent-teacher conferences. They have also been given the flexibility to schedule parent-teacher conferences earlier in November.

Wednesday, November 27 has been designated a regular school day for students and teachers. At this point, students and teachers should plan to report to school on that day. However, we are hoping to be able to use that day as a Flexible Instructional Day (FID). We have submitted a FIDs application on behalf of Butler Area School District and will know by early November if our Flexible Instructional Day application has been approved.

The Gab Squad Sep 11, 2019 gab show

Emily Brittain students recently had the opportunity to participate in the GAB SQUAD show.

“GAB SQUAD programs utilize original music, interactive comedy, and educational discussion to explore themes of tolerance, positive expression, bullying awareness, and above all, the use of creativity as an alternative to negative expression.” (https://gabsquad.com/about)

Air Quality Testing Aug 23, 2019

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Although we have not yet received a final report, we have received the results of our air quality testing.  They are posted to our website. You can view the test results here: https://www.basdk12.org/Content2/air-quality

Some of the results were described as “elevated” and we have received several recommendations for how to proceed. We will continue to follow all recommendations, which include keeping the air moving in the school, recleaning the univentalators, changing the filters in the univentalators and being vigilant about cleaning. At this time we have not received any recommendations that would alter our normal operation.

In addition, we intend to retest all rooms with elevated levels. As testing occurs, results will be posted to our website.

Sincerely,

Brian J. White, Jr., Ed.D.
Superintendent
Butler Area School District
