Two individuals from the Butler community were finalists for the Champions of Learning award. Each year the Consortium for Public Education recognizes Champions of Learning throughout our region.
The Golden Tornado Jazz Ensemble recently took their show on the road! The Jazz Ensemble visited Center Township, Northwest and Connoquenessing elementary schools where they performed for the students.

Several Butler Area School District teams participated in the MIU4 K’Nex STEM Design Challenge at the Intermediate High School. The BASD teams were from the Intermediate High School, Middle School, Center Township and Northwest. Teams from other school districts within MIU4 also participated in the event.
Two of Butler teams won best design awards! Center Township won best design for grades 4-5 and the Intermediate High School won best design for grades 6-8.
The Pennsylvania school health regulations require that school nurses conduct height and weight measurements of students annually in an effort to determine a pattern of growth for each child. A Body Mass Index (BMI) for Age percentile was also calculated which is used as a guideline to help assess whether a person may be overweight or underweight.
To recognize the 100th day of school, the second grade students and teachers of Northwest Elementary School collected donations for the Butler County Humane Society. Their goal was 100 items. Within a short period of time, 390 items were collected! Thanks to their generous donations, the dogs and cats have some new toys, bowls, treats, and food.
The Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation, Inc. recently awarded over $20,000 to support Creative Teaching Grants. According to the GTSF, these grants fund teachers who go the extra mile to incorporate creative and innovative projects in the classroom.
Butler Area School District elementary schools celebrated the National Education Association’s Read Across America week from February 25 – March 1.
