Beginning next month, all school districts throughout the State of Pennsylvania will participate in the Pennsylvania System of School Assessments (PSSA). At Northwest School, we will follow the assessment schedule listed below.
Unfortunately, we experienced technical difficulties with the company that supports “SchoolCafe” today. Some students were unable to log in to the school lunch system, while others had inaccurate information in their account. Despite the difficulty, all students were offered food.
The Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation, Inc. recently awarded over $20,000 to support Creative Teaching Grants. According to the GTSF, these grants fund teachers who go the extra mile to incorporate creative and innovative projects in the classroom.
Butler Area School District elementary schools celebrated the National Education Association’s Read Across America week from February 25 – March 1.
February was American Heart Month and all Butler Area School District elementary schools, including the middle school, took part in the Kids Heart Challenge for the 12th year in a row! Learn more>
I’m sure many of you are wondering how the school cancelation on Wednesday, Feb. 20 will impact our school calendar. Our plan is to make up the day at the end of the year. This means that Thursday, June 6 will now be the last day for students.
Dr. White presented an Executive Summary of the School Organization Community Forums that were helpd this fall at the February 11, 2019 school board meeting.
Due to the power outages earlier this year, we submitted an emergency waiver request to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. However, at this time, we have not heard back from the state. Thus, it is necessary to schedule two make up days.

The Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation (GTSF) recently received two generous donations through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program. NexTier Bank and Baglier Buick GMC Mazda each donated $5,000 to the GTSF in 2018. The funds will be used to support the district’s STEAM program.
I’d like to update you about how the Northwest Caring Angel Fundraiser finished up this year. Our Goal was to raise over $2,222.22, our total from last year. Well, we did it! The students, families and staff raised $2,782.12 for Caring Angels. And we did it with a few less students than last year. Thank you all so much.

If you have a child who will be five years of age on or before September 1, 2018, it's time to register for kindergarten!
If you are unable to make it to orientation on March 1 or registration on March 8, please contact the school office at (724) 214-4100 as soon as possible.
Kindergarten screening will occur on May 11, 2018. Parents will be given a screening time when they attend their child's kindergarten registration appointment.
