Registering for the 2020-2021 school year
If your child will be five years old on or before September 1, 2020, you need to register him or her for kindergarten if you have not already done so.
Due to the school closures, we have several new options for submitting your child’s kindergarten registration information. You can submit your child’s paperwork in one of two ways.
- Drop it off at one of our dropoff locations
- Mail it to us
You only have to do one of the two options. More details about each one is included below.

Kindergarten Registration Dropoffs
We have several kindergarten registration dropoff locations. You may drop your child’s registration paperwork at any location, regardless of the Butler Area building that your child will attend next school year. Please note, staff members will not be available to answer your questions at the dropoff locations.

Can I just mail the paperwork?
Yes! You can also mail your child’s kindergarten registration paperwork to our District Administration Building. Please mail to:

How do I get the kindergarten registration packet?
You can download the packet from our website and print it at home.
If you are unable to print at home, you can also pick up a packet at the District Administration Building (110 Campus Lane, Butler, PA 16001). The packets are in a box outside the front door.

Please note: Our timeline has been modified this year due to the COVID-19 school closure.
Begin the Process!
Call your child's school to let them know your child will be registering for kindergarten in the fall. They will assist you in making a Kindergarten Registration appointment for March.
If you are not sure which elementary school your child will attend, please call or email our Transportation Department at 724-287-8723 or email@example.com.
(CANCELED) Kindergarten Registration
Please complete the Kindergarten Enrollment Packet and the Health History/Nursing Packet and bring those along with your child's original birth certificate, your child's immunization records, two forms of proof of residency to your kindergarten registration appointment. (CANCELED) Spring Into Kindergarten
Spring Into Kindergarten is a fun event for incoming kindergarten students and their parents/guardians. Students and parents/guardians will work through several activity centers designed to better prepare your child for kindergarten in the fall. Each child will go home with a gift bag full of tools they need to keep learning and growing all summer long. You will receive more information about this event as well as the dates and times at your Kindergarten Registration appointment.
(POSTPONED) Kindergarten Screening
Kindergarten Screening is mandatory for incoming kindergarten students. This helps us ensure we are prepared to meet the needs of all of our students in the fall.

(TENTATIVE) Jump Start Kindergarten
Kindergarten here we come! Jump Start Kindergarten is an opportunity for students to learn all about kindergarten, meet their teachers, see their classroom, take a bus trip and even check out the cafeteria. You will receive the Jump Start Kindergarten date and time over the summer.
Kindergarten Registration Check List
Please print and complete both the Kindergarten Enrollment Packet and the Health History/Nursing Packet, and bring the information with you to your kindergarten registration appointment. If you are unable to print the forms, you may pick up a copy at any of our elementary schools.

In addition to completing both the Kindergarten Enrollment Packet and the Health History/Nursing Packet, please bring the following with you to your registration appointment.
- Your child's original birth certificate
- Your child's immunization records
- Two forms of proof of residency
Proof of the following immunizations must be presented before a child can enter school.
- Diptheria – 4 doses of toxoid, one dose given after age four
- Tetanus – 4 doses of toxoid, one dose given after age four
- Polio – 4 doses of vaccine (IPV or OPV), one dose given after age four
- Measles – 2 doses of vaccine, first dose administered at 12 months or older (usually MMR)
- Mumps – 2 doses of vaccine, first dose administered at 12 months or older (usually MMR)
- Rubella – 1 dose of vaccine, first dose administered at 12 months or older (usually MMR)
- Hepatitis B – 3 doses of vaccine, 3rd dose must be given after 6 months of age
- Varicella – 2 doses of vaccine, first dose administered on or after first birthday or a doctor’s written statement of history of child having had varicella (chicken pox)
- Proof of lead levels in blood (new building requirement beginning January 1, 2008)
Proof of Residency
You will need two proofs of residency, one from each list below, to register your child for school in the Butler Area School District. The following documents may be used as proof of residency within the Butler Area School District. Please bring one proof of residency from each list below to your child's enrollment meeting.
