Mrs. Michelini's first grade students at Summit Elementary have been busy bees at the school's Lettuce Grow station this year!
The Lettuce Grow is a self-watering, self-fertilizing hydroponic farmstand. Each week since the strawberry plants bloomed, students were involved. They participated by making observations and by doing the work of honey bees to help support our strawberry plants. By using cotton swabs to carry the pollen from flower to flower, the blossoms soon transformed, and they could witness the sweet science of how flowers become fruit!
All of the students were very excited to spot the first strawberries in our school's patch!
