Jensen Wehrli, an emotional support teacher at Center Avenue Community School, won the Rookie Teacher of the Year award from the Education Partnership!
Each year, the Education Partnership honors local educators in several award categories. The objectives of the Teacher Appreciation Awards include:
- Recognizing the excellence of the many outstanding educators, administrators, and school staff who participate in The Education Partnership’s programs;
- Focusing attention on quality and exemplary educators;
- Increasing public awareness of the importance of quality educators; and
- Providing tangible recognition of achievement, earning the respect of colleagues, and enhancing professional opportunities for educators of The Education Partnership.
"As educators, we must have the ability to empathize with our students - to understand and share the feelings of one another," said Ms. Wehrli. "We need to understand that behavior has meaning and that behavior is a form of communication."
"Too often, we find ourselves going through the motions and not taking enough time out of the day to meet the emotional needs of our students," she added. "We cannot expect our students to succeed if we haven't met their basic needs. We must let our students know they are seen, they are heard, they are supported, and they are loved for who they are."
Congratulations to Jensen on this well-deserved honor!
