6th Grade STEAM Project

Students Hunter Anderson, Jacob Fulmer, Copeland Gebhart, and Edwin Wilczynski participate in Mr. Sovek’s extra S.T.E.A.M. time. The students use the CNC machine to make signs for Mr. McCool and Mr. Takacs’s aquaponics lab.

CNC stands for computer numerical control. The machine is controlled by a computer that utilizes the X,Y and Z coordinate system to engrave designs in wood. Aquaponics is a system that raises both fish and plants using aquaculture and hydroponics (soil-less plants) respectively. The plants benefit from the fish and the fish benefit from the plants in this sustainable system that uses far less resources than traditional farming!
