When you register your child for kindergarten during the summer, you will be asked to choose a screening appointment date and time on July 15, 16, 18 or 19.
Why is kindergarten screening important?
The data from the screening will help your child’s teacher become more familiar with your child and anticipate your child’s instructional needs. It will also help the school to create balanced class lists. The results of this screening will not affect your child’s ability to attend kindergarten.
What will the kindergarten screening consist of?
Students will be assessed in areas of literacy and numeracy. More specific screening information will be provided at your registration appointment.
How long will the screening take?
The screening may take approximately 30 minutes. A certified teacher will take your child to administer the assessments while you receive information about kindergarten from a member of the Kindergarten Transition Team.
When will I receive the results of the screening?
Information from the screening will be made available to parents at the end of their appointment.
What will my child need to bring to the screening?
Nothing. The district will provide anything that is needed for the assessment.
