Greetings from the New Principal

Northwest Families,

It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed principal of Northwest Elementary. Next year will be my tenth year with the Butler Area School District.  My experiences include being the assistant principal at Center Township Elementary, and teaching at both the Butler Junior High School and McQuistion Elementary.  Before coming to Butler, I taught in the Gallup-McKinley County School District in New Mexico for five years.

I grew up in Gibsonia and graduated from Deer Lakes High School. I studied elementary and special education at Edinboro University and received my principal certificate from Western New Mexico University. I currently live in Cheswick with my wife and daughter.

I am looking forward to working with your child(ren). I feel that my responsibility is to ensure your child receives a quality education within a safe, respectful environment.  I know the staff at Northwest shares that same focus.  I am a firm believer in the home/school connection.  Please feel free to contact me at the school with any questions, concerns, or just to introduce yourself.  Working together will enhance your child’s educational experiences.

Matthew D. Martinez
Principal, Northwest Elementary School
