Hello parents/guardians of student athletes.
I wanted to reach out and provide guidance on registering for fall sports and participating in summer open gyms. We are taking healthy and safety precautions as a result of COVID-19 that will impact how our athletic program traditionally operates.
The health and safety of our student athletes, coaches, and office staff are of utmost importance. Posted on the athletic office’s website at www.basdk12.org/athletics are the BASD Athletics Health and Safety Plan for returning to play, registration information and instructions, summer open gym dates and times, forms, and other pertinent information relating to Butler athletics.
First, the Athletic Office will be reopening on August 3, 2020. Until then, no one will be permitted to enter the athletic office to drop off registration paperwork. To help lessen physical contact during this time and for the remainder of this season, I am requesting that student athletes mail in the registration paperwork and athletic fee to: Butler Athletic Office, 120 Campus Lane, Butler, PA 16001. If you are not able to mail in the registration paperwork and athletic fee, you may either slide your paperwork and payment under the athletic office door or use the drop-off box located at the School District’s administration building. The drop-off box is located on the door directly to the left of the main entrance of the administration building.
Secondly, to participate in summer workouts/open gyms, the district has implemented the “BASD Athletics Health and Safety Plan for returning to play.” It stipulates that each student athlete must turn in the “BASD Waiver for Summer Open Gyms” to their coach prior to participating in summer open gyms. The form is located on the athletic office website at www.basdk12.org/athletics.
I do understand that many of our families do not have access to print the registration paperwork and the waiver for summer open gyms. Like other years, these forms will be available on the back of the athletic office door if you need to stop by and pick up a copy. You may also reach out to the coach of your child’s sport.
We have also received a few questions about fall sports and the guidelines that stipulate we will not be able to have spectators at our games. These guidelines were issued by the governor, not our school district. You can review them here: https://www.governor.pa.gov/covid-19/sports-guidance/.
