Dear BASD Parents/Guardians:
I want to begin by thanking everyone for your support and understanding as we transitioned to remote learning at the elementary level and continued remote learning at the secondary level. Unfortunately, we have already exceeded our thresholds to have live instruction next week. We will continue to operate our elementary and secondary schools as we did this week. It is also necessary to transition Center Avenue Community School to Remote Instruction.
Monday, November 23 - Tuesday, November 24
- Elementary - Remote Instruction
- Secondary - Remote Instruction
- Center Avenue Community School - Remote Learning
- Self contained special education classrooms - In Person at School
Wednesday, November 25 - Monday, November 30
We will continue to evaluate this on a weekly basis and make decisions based on the testing data and the information provided by county leadership and local medical leaders.
Those leaders have shared the challenges and stresses they are confronting. To that end, it is my utmost goal and desire to find a live instruction.
One of our greatest challenges to having live instruction is staffing. The number of employees who need a leave of absence or who have become quarantined presents an ongoing challenge. Just like the COVID data, I watch this very closely.
It is also important that we continue to track positive cases of COVID-19 in our school community. This information will be helpful in determining when live instruction can resume. If your child tests positive for COVID-19, please report it to your child’s principal or school nurse.
Yesterday the PIAA made the decision to continue with the winter sports season as scheduled. Therefore, we are going to cautiously allow Varsity and Junior Varsity winter sports to proceed with their workouts on Friday, November 20, 2020. We are going to allow Junior High athletics to resume on Friday, December 4, 2020.
Per the Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Levine’s order, all student athletes must wear a mask even when practicing and competing. The PIAA has requested clarification regarding this order from the Governor and the Secretary of Health.
Our athletic program was very successful this summer and fall in implementing COVID-19 mitigation strategies. We will be reinforcing COVID-19 mitigation strategies with all coaches and student athletes. We will monitor our athletics program on a daily basis and make adjustments as needed to operate as safely as possible.
To those who have been directly impacted by COVID-19, my thoughts are with you and your families. To all of our medical providers, particularly those treating COVID-19 patients, my heartfelt thanks and gratitude goes out to you.
