A Message from the Superintendent -- Friday, November 27, 2020

super message

Dear BASD Parents/Guardians:

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, we have once again exceeded our thresholds to have live in-person instruction next week. We will continue to operate our elementary, secondary schools and Center Avenue Community School to Remote Instruction as we did this week.

Tuesday, December 1 - Friday, December 4:

  • Elementary - Remote Instruction

  • Secondary - Remote Instruction

  • Center Avenue Community School - Remote Instruction

  • Self-contained special education classrooms - In-person Instruction at School

We will continue to evaluate this on a weekly basis and make decisions based on the testing data and the information provided by county leadership and local medical leaders. This past Monday, Governor Tom Wolf and Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine issued new orders and guidance to schools. We are working to determine if and how this changes our decision making process moving forward.

One component of the new guidance is a recommendation that school districts make more school based decisions instead of districtwide decisions. The goal is to use the number of active cases among each school’s students and staff to determine whether that school should operate in-person or remotely. For this to effectively work we need your assistance in reporting positive cases to the school principal or school nurse in a timely manner.

I hope to have an update for you next week regarding these new orders and guidance.

I hope you and your families continue to remain safe and well.  Enjoy the remainder of the Thanksgiving break.

Sincerely,

Brian J. White, Jr., Ed.D.
Superintendent
Butler Area School District
