Beverly Everly, a paraprofessional at Center Avenue Community School, organized community donations to create C.A.R.E.S. bags for students. C.A.R.E.S stands for Center Avenue Resources for Each Student.
The volunteers put together approximately 70 C.A.R.E.S. bags that included food, books, toys, other supplies to help students during the winter break. Members of the Center Avenue Community School community donated items and then delivered the bags to students before the winter break.
In addition to being helpful resources for students, the bags are also tied to Center Avenue’s School-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support program. Any students who have earned Tornado Tickets for being safe, respectful and responsible during the past few weeks of remote learning were placed into a drawing. Six students were the lucky recipients of a gift card in their package!
The delivery was also an opportunity for students to turn in any assignments they completed on paper while they were learning remotely. All of the volunteers who delivered the C.A.R.E.S. bags also collected assignments so teachers could begin grading and students could earn credit for their hard work.
A special thank you to Ms. Everly and everyone who made C.A.R.E.S. bags possible for our students!
