SHS COHORT Model Schedule

December 17, 2020

Senior High Parents & Students,

Based on the current situation with COVID-19 in the Butler Area School District and the revision the Board of School Directors approved to the Reopening Plan, our secondary schools may be operating under a cohort model at some point.  The implementation of this model requires changes to previously set attendance days for our Flexible Traditional Pathway students in order to match the days Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School will operate should they also implement their cohort model.  Here’s what that means for the Senior High School:

  • Gold Cohort: Students with last names beginning A-K attend Tuesday/Thursday
  • White Cohort: Students with last names beginning L-Z attend Monday/Wednesday
  • Fridays alternate between cohorts. Click for the Friday schedule
  • Specialized Classroom students continue to attend every day

On days when students are not in attendance at school, they will be expected to continue to join their classes through Live Streaming.

Wednesdays and Fridays switch in the Master Schedule (Science labs, Science Study Halls) in order to ensure students get the most time possible for lab work.

Flexible Traditional Student days must shift:

  • Tuesday/Friday Flex shifts to Tuesday/Thursday (Gold)
  • Monday/Thursday Flex shifts to Monday/Wednesday (White)

Additionally, during the Cohort instructional model, all students previously assigned to eat lunch in the gym lobby or auxiliary gym will eat in the main cafeteria.

None of this has any impact on classes being completed on the Edgenuity platform.

As with all of the changes endured this year, we ask for your patience as we work through any glitches that arise.  In closing, I want to comment on the performance of our students during in-person instruction at the start of the year.  They were phenomenal about following health and safety protocols, including wearing masks.  It will be important to maintain that same level of attention to those aspects as we embark on the cohort operational model.
