Center Township Students Learn How to Golf

Golf at CT

Mrs. Tanya Wilkinson, Center Township physical education teacher, received a grant from the Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation to implement The First Tee National School Program.

The First Tee National School Program introduces elementary students to the game of golf as well as The First Tee Nine Core Values and Nine Healthy Habits during physical education class. The program creates an environment where young people experience the lifelong sport of golf, while learning basic golf motor skills and the inherent values of the game, including health enhancing habits.

“I'm hoping by introducing it early, there will be more interest at a younger age to start, which will therefore help the golf programs at the high school level,” said Mrs. Wilkinson. “There are also so many scholarship opportunities for golf. So many kids have never touched a club or been golfing before. It gives the students a chance to try something new and maybe find that they are good at it and possibly pursue it down the road.”

Mrs. Wilkinson received professional development training and was provided with a developmentally appropriate curriculum and equipment for effective implementation of the program at Center Township.

Thank you to the Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation for the support!
