A Message from the Superintendent -- August 5, 2021

a message from the superintendent

Dear BASD Families,

Our goal this fall is to operate on a normal schedule every day. Unfortunately, like many businesses and other organizations, we are being impacted by staffing shortages.

There are two areas in particular that are in need of workers -- transportation and food service.

In the coming days, you will receive your child’s transportation card. You may notice that your child’s route is longer than it has been in the past. In addition, the bus runs are at max capacity or close to it. This is because Valley Lines is short drivers. In addition, Valley Lines is in need of bus monitors.

If you are looking for a job or know somebody who would be interested, please contact Valley Lines at 724-287-0003. They will provide free training! A bonus plan of up to $1,000 paid throughout the 2021-2022 school year is available for the first 20 new drivers who are hired.

As a reminder, masks are required on school buses by order of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

If you are planning to transport your child to and/or from school each day, please complete this form:

Food Service

The Nutrition Group, our food service provider, is actively seeking individuals interested in working in the district’s cafeterias. Our goal is to provide a hot lunch every day. However, if we cannot fill positions, we may have to offer a bagged lunch instead. We currently have 15-20 positions to fill.

If you are looking for a job or know somebody who would be interested, please contact The Nutrition Group at 724-214-3224.

District Employment

The school district also has open positions. We are seeking crossing guards, custodians (full-time and part-time), paraprofessionals (part-time), and substitute teachers. Please visit to see a full list of our open positions. Please contact with any questions.

Mask Update

We know a lot of you have questions about the mask requirements for the upcoming school year. We’ve heard more guidance specific to Pennsylvania schools may be coming. We will share more information as it is made available to us.

Thank you in advance for your patience this year. As we operate these departments with a lean staff, I anticipate there will be unforeseen circumstances that are beyond our control.
