I am writing to introduce myself as the new Principal of McQuistion Elementary. The 2019-2020 school year will be my 20th year as an employee of Butler Area School District, and I am excited to now be a part of the McQuistion community. I look forward to getting to know your children this year and working together to help each of them grow and learn this year.
I studied English and education at St. Vincent College and earned my Master’s and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Pittsburgh. My experiences include teaching 7th grade English at the Junior High, leading the Junior High and Senior High as an Assistant Principal, and upon consolidation, working as the Assistant Principal of the Intermediate High School. I am a proud Butler Area graduate, and I have chosen to raise my family in this community.
I have spent the past year working with a cohort of schools to develop Maker Learning in our district. Maker Learning allows students to learn through doing while inspiring creativity and personalizing their learning experiences. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and engaging McQuistion in the Western Pennsylvania Maker Network.
The implementation of a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program will be another initiative at McQuistion this year. PBIS will be incorporated districtwide, but we will be developing own programing surrounding the core principals of PBIS: explicitly prompting, modeling, practicing, and encouraging positive expected social skills across settings. The end goal is to create a more positive, safer learning environment.
I feel my responsibility is to ensure that your child has the educational opportunities I want for my own children. I look forward to working together to make this possible. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or to introduce yourself and your child. Best wishes for a wonderful remainder of the summer.
