Dear IHS Parents/Guardians:
New for the 2019-2020 school year, the Intermediate High School will be "teaming" grade level teachers in grades 7 and 8. The "teaming" of teachers will afford an increased understanding of the unique learning needs of students, as well as provide an opportunity for extensive collaboration in meeting these needs. Teachers will also be able to effectively communicate and address the social/emotional needs of their shared students.
The core subject teachers in grades 7 and 8 will be divided into three teams: Team A, Team B and Team C. From there, students will be randomly assigned to a team and will be scheduled for classes according to their individual strengths, needs, and requests. The core subject teachers on each team will meet regularly to tailor the educational experience for students.
Daily student life at the Intermediate High School will not be affected by the new teaming approach. In fact, most students won't notice any change. Logistically, the students will maintain the same independence and freedom they have always enjoyed in grades 7 and 8. Students will switch classes and will not likely be with the same group of students throughout the day.
In addition to teaming, the Intermediate High School will also be operating on a new bell schedule. The new bell schedule will provide a 21-minute common daily activity period between 6th and 7th period. This common time will be used for academic support, study hall and advisory activities.
We are excited and optimistic about the positive impact that teaming and the revised bell schedule will have on the educational experience at the Intermediate High School.
