November 27 -- Flexible Instructional Day

Dear BASD Parents and Guardians:

As you may recall, earlier this school year we submitted a Flexible Instructional Days (FID) application to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We have been notified that our Flexible Instructional Day (FID) application has been approved.

We are designating Wednesday, November 27 as a FIDs Day. Students will not report to school on Wednesday, November 27. However, they will have assignments to complete.

Flexible Instructional Days (FID) is a new initiative for schools launched by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Students will receive take home kits with instructional materials they will need to complete. It is expected that all students complete the assigned learning activities and actively participate in the assigned activities. Students will have 10 days from the Flexible Instructional Day to submit all work for credit. In addition, faculty will be available remotely on November 27th to assist students who need help.

“A Flexible Instructional Day (FID) Program is a tool available to public school entities to be used as an alternate approach to delivering instruction if a circumstance arises that prevents instruction in customary manner.” Click for more info>

Flexible Instructional Days are intended to be used when circumstances prevent school districts from delivering traditional instruction. One of the circumstances where the state supports the use of a FIDs day is when school is canceled due to transportation issues.

We will share more specific details about the assignments in November. In the meantime, we wanted to make you aware of the change to the school schedule as soon as possible so that you could make any necessary childcare arrangements.

Thank you for your patience and flexibility.

Sincerely,

Brian J. White, Jr., Ed.D.
Superintendent
Butler Area School District
