Graduation and Prom Update

A Message from the Superintendent -- June 27, 2020

Dear Graduates, Students and Parents/Guardians:

As of Friday evening (June 26), Butler County remains in the green phase. Unfortunately, this means we will not be able to hold the postponed Graduation Ceremony or the Prom that were planned for July.

I am thankful that we were able to hold mini diploma ceremonies to honor the outstanding accomplishments of our graduates. If you can watch our virtual ceremony here: https://www.basdk12.org/news/647

I know these events are very special and it’s incredibly disappointing that we were not able to have our traditional Graduation Ceremony or Prom this year. I still hope to hold a Senior Recognition/Class of 2020 event in the future. We will certainly keep you posted if we are able to hold a Senior Recognition/Class of 2020 event in the future.

Once again, thank you for your continued patience and flexibility. Congratulations and best wishes to the Butler Class of 2020!

Sincerely,

Brian J. White, Jr., Ed.D.

Superintendent

A Message from the Superintendent -- June 18, 2020

Dear Graduates, Students and Parents/Guardians:

Over the last few weeks, we have received a variety of instructions and guidance on the parameters within which we must operate to reopen the school district.  Based on the information that we have received during the Green Phase of the Governor’s Reopening Plan, we are not permitted to hold any events that have congregant groups of more than 250 people.

Therefore, if Butler County remains in the Green Phase, we cannot hold the postponed Graduation Ceremony or the Prom that are currently planned for July.

I intend to wait until next Friday, June 26, 2020 to officially determine whether or not we will be able to hold these events in hopes that new guidance will be issued by then. However, waiting beyond that date would not allow sufficient time for all of the necessary planning and preparations to take place.

Assuming it becomes necessary to cancel these events, we hope to hold a Senior Recognition/Class of 2020 event in the future.  I know these events are special and I will continue to hope for a possibility that we can hold something in the future to celebrate the Butler Class of 2020.

Congratulations and best wishes to the Class of 2020!

Sincerely,

Brian J. White, Jr., Ed.D.
Superintendent
Butler Area School District
