Students in Mrs. Sankey’s 8th grade honors/gifted science class recently visited the new makerspace in the Intermediate High School library where they worked on a unique project.
Students had to design and build a Rube Goldberg machine, which had 10 energy transfers to ultimately pop a balloon.
“This open-ended challenge utilized engineering design and incorporated problem solving skills when adjustments were needed in the original plan,” explained Mrs. Sankey. “They applied their knowledge of simple machines and energy transfers to complete the task.”
The project concluded with students presenting their Rube Goldberg devices to a small group audience.
