Safe2Say At Butler Area School District

January 11, 2019

The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff has long been a priority at Butler Area School District. Over the last several years, the district has committed resources to creating a nurturing and safe learning environment for all.

Recently, the Office of the Attorney General created the Safe2Say Something Program, which will be used by all school districts in Pennsylvania. Safe2Say is an anonymous reporting system that allows individuals (students, parents, teachers, staff, community members, etc) to report anyone who may be showing signs they have the potential to carry out an act of violence at school.

The Safe2Say program was created by the Sandy Hook Promise, a non-profit dedicated to preventing violence in schools. Pennsylvania is the first state to launch the anonymous reporting system/app/website statewide.

This new program aligns to our school district's mission, which includes providing a nurturing and safe environment.

The mission of the Butler Area School District, a community dedicated to fostering a culture of forward-thinking, innovative and lifelong learning, is to prepare students to succeed in an ever-changing global society through academically rigorous and individualized learning experiences within a nurturing and safe environment.

In accordance with Act 44 of 2018, training has been provided for school entities as well as 911 emergency dispatch centers. The program will be fully implemented on January 14, 2019. Once the program is fully implemented, we will share all of the information to submit an anonymous report.
